A Little Bit About Me
My name is Helen and I’ve been working in education for almost 32 years.

After completing my degree at the University of Nottingham, I began working for Wilmorton College in Derby teaching GCSE & A Level English Language & Literature. I had a 100% pass rate with every group I taught. After the birth of my daughter, I worked for Derbyshire County Council Adult and Community Education. I taught everything from Basic Skills English to GCSE English Language, including WordPower and Functional Skills. I was the only GCSE Tutor in Erewash, Amber Valley and South Derbyshire for 5 years. I’m proud to say that my students maintained the 100% pass rate.
In 2006 I began teaching secondary English; KS3, 4 & 5. I have been Curriculum Leader, Second in English and a member of SLT. I have worked in two secondary schools in the East Midlands and I also worked in the Middle East for four years teaching English at one of the largest British International Schools in the world. Whilst working in the Middle East, I taught IGCSE First and Second Language English. (Edexcel and CIE).
I have marked both GCSE English Language and Literature and marked KS3 SATs when they were a compulsory examination in English secondary schools.
I am a qualified assessor of dyslexia in adults, and have completed CPD in SEN. I have tutored students with additional needs and have been successful in applying for extra time; reader pens; amanuensis and using a word processor to assist students in having the best chance of achieving the highest possible grade.
I have tutored both adults and young people. My approach begins with a no-obligation assessment of the student’s needs via Google Meet. (Other platforms such as Microsoft Teams are also available). Tuition is online, and 1:1. Please see Terms and Conditions before booking any sessions.

In exceptional circumstances, Face to Face tuition may be negotiated. Please ask for more details and cost per session.
For IGCSE & GCSE tuition, all UK examination boards are supported. Prior to beginning, I will need the student’s target grade, their current working at grade and a copy of their most recent assessment.

KS3 Tuition
The English Tutor's expert KS3 English Tuition service is the perfect way to help students achieve academic success. I will provide personalised instruction in key areas like an introduction to Shakespeare, English techniques, and the art of reading for deeper meaning. I will focus on improving spelling, punctuation, grammar, and poetry basics, as well as providing students with the tools they need to respond effectively to literature.
Tuition Charges: £30 per hour 1:1
Block booking of 5 sessions: £130 (Saving of £20)
GCSE & IGCSE English Language and Literature Tuition
I am pleased to offer customised exam preparation sessions for GCSE English Language and Literature, as well as IGCSE First and Second Language English. Online one-to-one tuition is led by a highly qualified and experienced teacher, and all UK examination boards are taught. Whether you require a one-off session or a series of lessons, I am committed to ensuring that you feel confident about your forthcoming examinations.

Block booking of 5 sessions: £150 (Saving of £25)
Improve your English Speaking and listening
I am pleased to offer our professional coaching services for GCSE & IGCSE Speaking and Listening assessments. Years of teaching experience; proof reading, examination marking amd teaching the basics of good grammar means I can assist you in crafting a compelling speech and perfecting your delivery. I also provide meticulous proofreading services for essays, assignments, and documents, ensuring that your work is polished and ready for publication both on paper and online. In addition, I specialise in crafting exceptional personal statements for university applications and job opportunities. Don't let poor Spelling, Punctuation, and Grammar (SPaG) hinder your success.
